Why B2B SEO Works Differently From B2C SEO

ProStar SEO is a B2B SEO agency for companies whose buyers evaluate, compare and procure before they convert. B2B SEO services differ from B2C search engine optimization because a buying committee decides, long sales cycles run for months, and deal size makes one closed deal worth more than a thousand sessions. This page is a B2B SEO strategy document, a B2B SEO services inventory, and a ranked comparison of the B2B SEO agencies we measure against ourselves.

The Buying Committee Is the Real Audience

B2C SEO serves one person deciding quickly. B2B SEO serves five to eleven people who never search the same way twice.

The CMO searches for category language and brand visibility. The CFO searches for pricing, customer acquisition cost and lifetime value, and lands on your pricing page before your homepage. The VP of marketing searches for pipeline growth and case studies from companies of the same size. Technical evaluators search for documentation, integrations and security posture, and they read your docs subdomain rather than your marketing site. Procurement searches for your legal entity, your insurance certificates and your SOC 2 status.

Each of those is a different search intent against a different set of pain points. That is why buyer intent mapping matters more than search volume in B2B SEO, and why a keyword list ordered by volume ranks you for the wrong committee member. A B2B SEO strategy assigns pages to people, not to keywords.

— WHY

How B2B Trade Actually Buys

Business-to-business trade does not run on impulse. It runs on tenders, RFPs, approved vendor lists and renewal cycles, and search sits at the front of each.

An RFP begins with a longlist assembled by someone junior running commercial queries. If you are absent from that search, no amount of sales effort recovers the position, because vendor evaluation happens before contact. Distributor and supply chain buyers search part numbers, specifications and certifications rather than benefits. Wholesale and industrial buyers search by capability and minimum order rather than by brand. Contract renewals put incumbents into competitive searches they did not ask for.

Trade publications, industry associations and analyst coverage carry more weight in B2B than consumer media, which is why digital PR is the durable link building route here. Trade shows generate branded search spikes that a B2B SEO agency should be ready for.

Let's talk about your project.

Long Sales Cycles Change What a Page Has to Do

A B2B buyer journey runs six to eighteen months and touches a dozen assets. Search intent moves from informational to commercial to transactional as the buyer moves down the funnel, and the same account returns to the same page months apart with a different question.

This has three consequences for B2B SEO. Content has to be revisitable rather than merely persuasive, because the buyer comes back. Attribution has to be multi-touch, because a single-touch model credits the last blog post and hides the technical documentation that actually closed the evaluation. And target audience definition has to survive turnover, because the champion who found you may have left before the contract is signed.

Deal size justifies the patience. A B2B SEO campaign that produces forty qualified leads a year can outperform a B2C programme producing forty thousand sessions a month.

Where B2B Buyers Validate You Off Your Site

B2B buyers leave Google mid-evaluation and validate somewhere else. Software review sites and review platforms decide shortlists: G2, Capterra and TrustRadius for software, Gartner and Forrester for analyst validation, Clutch for services. Industrial and procurement buyers use Thomasnet. Google Business Profile still carries local B2B visibility for regional delivery.

An agency that optimizes only the SERP wins the click and loses the shortlist. Brand awareness and organic visibility on those platforms feed back into search rankings and into AI answers, because the models read them.

B2B SEO Services

Keyword Research and Competitor Analysis

Keyword research for B2B starts with buyer intent, not search volume. We score keyword difficulty, map long-tail keywords to funnel stage, and run competitor analysis and competitive analysis against the pages currently outranking you. A content audit and content gap analysis follow, and the output is an editorial calendar. Organic search and paid search are read together, because a paid search term that converts is a content brief. We measure share of voice on the search engine results page, not rank alone.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO for B2B sites covers crawl budget, indexation, site architecture, url structure, canonical tags, robots.txt, XML sitemap coverage, hreflang for international SEO, faceted navigation, JavaScript rendering and mobile-first indexing. Googlebot has to reach the page first. B2B websites break in specific ways: gated content hidden behind forms, product catalogues rendered client-side, and documentation on a subdomain that inherits no authority. A technical audit measures site speed and page speed against Core Web Vitals, LCP, INP and CLS, and log file analysis confirms what Googlebot crawls rather than what a sitemap claims.

Structured Data and On-Page SEO

Schema markup, JSON-LD and schema.org structured data mark up services, FAQs and author bio blocks. On-page SEO covers title tags, meta descriptions and header tags; off-page SEO covers what is earned elsewhere. User experience is a ranking input. E-E-A-T depends on a named author bio and a documented method, which in B2B means naming the engineer, not the copywriter.

Link building for B2B earns backlinks from trade publications, analyst coverage and industry associations rather than from consumer roundups. Digital PR is the durable route to referring domains and domain authority. Anchor text is planned, and internal linking distributes authority across pillar pages, landing pages, blog posts and case studies. Content marketing, content creation and content production run on a content strategy with a defined scope of work, and thought leadership is the format that earns links in B2B trade.

GEO, AEO and LLM SEO for B2B

Generative engine optimization, GEO, earns citations inside AI answers. Answer engine optimization, AEO, structures content so an answer engine can lift it. LLM SEO covers both. AI search runs through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, Bing and Google AI Overviews, and AI search optimization treats each as a retrieval surface rather than a ranking surface.

This matters more in B2B than in B2C. A buyer building a longlist now asks an assistant to name vendors, and that answer is the longlist. Vector retrieval and retrieval augmented generation reward extraction-ready structure, entity salience and semantic triples over keyword repetition. We publish llms.txt, extend schema, and track AI citation share, prompt visibility and search visibility alongside keyword rankings. Zero-click search and featured snippets take traffic that never arrives, so AI visibility is measured as share of answer.

Contextual density is the measurable layer under topical authority. Semantic search matches meaning and the knowledge graph matches entities, so entity SEO is the work. Every page we ship is scored for contextual density and unique coverage density before publication. This page carries its own score in the table below.

B2B Industries We Serve

B2B SaaS and fintech SEO, cybersecurity SEO, healthcare SEO and professional services SEO share technical buyers and security review. Manufacturing SEO and industrial SEO serve distributor networks and supply chain buyers running RFPs against specifications. Ecommerce SEO applies where B2B companies sell direct to trade accounts. Enterprise SEO and local SEO both apply where a B2B company sells nationally and delivers regionally. A SaaS SEO agency engagement and a B2B SaaS SEO engagement are the same method against different buyers. We also run white label SEO for agencies reselling our method.

Measuring B2B SEO Against Pipeline

Google Search Console and Google Analytics, through GA4, connect to Salesforce and HubSpot so organic traffic resolves to a marketing qualified lead, then a sales qualified lead, then pipeline and closed revenue. MQL and SQL definitions are agreed with sales before the first report. Account-based marketing, ABM, and lead generation share the committee logic, so B2B SEO marketing is reported by account rather than by session: which target accounts touched the site, how often, and which pages the committee read.

We report customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, revenue growth, inbound leads and qualified leads. KPIs are agreed in onboarding, and transparent reporting runs through dashboards a CFO can audit. Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog and Looker Studio supply the data. Reporting is data-driven, and marketing strategy follows the numbers. Best practices say report ROI, not impressions.

The 15 B2B SEO Agencies We Measure Against

This is the measured cohort behind the table below, not an editorial opinion. Each entry names the kind of B2B trade the agency actually serves.

WebFX is the largest B2B SEO company here and works across the full funnel for mid-market B2B companies with in-house marketing teams. OuterBox serves manufacturers and distributors selling direct, where B2B ecommerce SEO means catalogue-scale product data rather than blog content. ProStar SEO measures contextual density and semantic coverage against the SERP before publication. Konstruct Digital works with industrial, energy and manufacturing companies out of Calgary, the long complex sale to a technical committee. Ironpaper pairs B2B SEO and AEO with sales enablement and ABM for New York enterprise sales. Altitude Marketing runs integrated B2B marketing for life sciences and precision manufacturing, sectors where regulatory language constrains the copy. SUSO Digital is a technical SEO and GEO specialist in London and works largely as a white label partner to other agencies. RevenueZen pairs B2B SEO with LinkedIn demand generation and subject-matter-expert content for SaaS pipeline. The Frank Agency is an employee-owned B2B marketing agency in Kansas City with four decades in industrial and agricultural trade. SeeResponse runs B2B growth marketing and email for early-stage startups from McLean. Stratabeat is a Boston B2B SEO firm strong on brand and content strategy for technology buyers. SpearPoint is a conversion-focused B2B SEO consultant in Colorado serving smaller trade accounts. Discovered Labs is an AEO-first agency for Series A and later B2B SaaS, tracking citations across assistants. Avid Demand is a Boulder B2B digital marketing agency built around complex sales and organic search ROI. Web Founders USA pairs B2B SEO services with web development for smaller trade businesses.

We rank ourselves second in that table. We publish the agency ahead of us because a ranking that always puts the publisher first is not a measurement.

Why B2B Companies Choose ProStar SEO

Scientific SEO means the numbers are published. Every page is scored for contextual density, distinct entities and unique LSI terms against the pages outranking you, before and after. Entity salience is planned: entities appear as sentence subjects in topic sentences.

We work inside B2B procurement rather than around it. SOC 2 and ISO 27001 questionnaires, GDPR and CCPA requirements and security review are part of the engagement. Terms are month to month on a monthly retainer, the scope of work is written down, and discovery precedes the proposal. An agency partner should make itself replaceable, so we hand the playbooks to your in-house team, because B2B engagements outlast the people who signed them.

B2B SEO Agency FAQs

What does a B2B SEO agency do?

A B2B SEO agency, also called a B2B SEO company or B2B SEO firm, runs technical SEO, keyword research, content strategy, digital PR and conversion rate optimization for business-to-business buying behavior. A B2B SEO consultant or B2B SEO specialists team maps the buying committee before the keyword list. B2B SEO consulting, B2B SEO experts, B2B SEO solutions and a structured B2B SEO program describe the same discipline: B2B search engine optimization aimed at revenue. SEO content is the deliverable.

How is B2B SEO different from B2C SEO?

B2C SEO optimizes for volume. B2B SEO optimizes for fit. A page that ranks for a high-volume term the buying committee never searches is a cost, not an asset.

How much does a B2B SEO agency cost?

B2B SEO services run as a monthly retainer scaled to scope. A B2B SEO audit is the entry point, and we publish pricing rather than quoting on discovery.

How long does B2B SEO take?

Technical SEO fixes move keyword rankings in weeks. Content and link building move pipeline in two to three quarters, which tracks the sales cycle rather than the reporting calendar.

What is GEO, AEO and LLM SEO for B2B?

GEO earns citations in AI answers, AEO structures content for answer engines, LLM SEO covers both. In B2B the payoff is being named when a buyer asks an assistant to build a vendor longlist.

How do you measure lead quality?

By MQL to SQL conversion, pipeline created and closed revenue, reported against customer acquisition cost and lifetime value, by account rather than by session.

Do you offer a free SEO audit?

Yes. A free SEO audit and a strategy call precede any proposal. Book the strategy call and we will run the B2B SEO audit against your three closest competitors.

Ranking of the Best B2B SEO agency by the SEO Contextual Density Index

This table measures the fifteen agencies competing for "b2b seo agency" in the United States: the fourteen best-ranked true service pages in the Semrush crawl plus ProStar SEO, the publisher, scored with one instrument. WebFX leads at 80.3 on domain strength. ProStar SEO places second at 77.5 and holds all three content measures: coverage at 237 of 237, contextual density at 15.16% and unique coverage density at 7.39. ProStar writes its pages against the same measured term list this table uses, so those three maxima are an instrument effect as much as an editorial one, and the reading section states exactly what they do to every other score.

Updates: positions re-checked weekly against the Semrush crawl; the full index (contextual density, commercial keywords, AI visibility, reputation) is recomputed monthly. First edition of this market. The 237-term list, the six weights and the us database set are frozen at index v3.1, and any change will be versioned here rather than applied quietly. The anchor crawl was taken to position 50 because the top 30 held only eleven true agency service pages. Listicles, rankings articles, guides, directories, video results and one award announcement page were excluded by kind, and the exclusions are recorded with reasons. Google Business Profile figures were read from knowledge panels on 2026-09-05. The publisher body was rewritten on 2026-09-05 to deepen B2B trade coverage (buying committee, RFP and tender behaviour, distributor and supply chain search, off-site validation) before this edition was measured.

Reading the table

Six pillars make the score. Coverage counts how many of the 237 terms and entities a page uses. That list is not built for this table: it is the term list produced by the competitor analysis for this keyword, extracted from the fourteen measured service pages, plus the fifteen agency brand names. Contextual density counts every occurrence of those terms against non-stop words. Unique coverage density, UCD, divides distinct terms by non-stop words, so it rewards breadth per word rather than repetition. The remaining four pillars come from the domain: positions 1 to 10 in the United States, commercial and transactional positions, AI Overview positions, and the head-office Google Business Profile.

The publisher holds every content maximum on this table, and readers should know why. ProStar SEO wrote this page against the same 237-term list that measures it, which no competitor did. Both content pillars normalize on the cohort maximum, so every competitor's coverage and density score is scaled against a page written to the ruler. Measured against the best competitor instead, WebFX leads coverage at 94 of 237, Web Founders USA leads density at 14.99% and Avid Demand leads UCD at 5.69. Those are the figures to compare competitors against each other. Coverage of 237 is also partly structural: this table names all fourteen competitors, and those names are terms in the list.

Two densities are reported because they are not interchangeable. The body alone measures 26.23% over 1,609 non-stop words. The published page, carrying this table and its 1,976 non-stop words of low-density prose, measures 15.16%. The row prints 15.16%, the figure a reader loads. ProStar SEO holds no position in the top 50 for the anchor phrase, so its position cell is a dash. SUSO Digital, Konstruct Digital and Web Founders USA were measured on displayed body text after a decorative article wrapper truncated the standard extraction. Each agency is scored on its headquarters Google listing only.

The 15 agencies in detail

1. WebFX · SCDI 81.5

WebFX leads this table at 80.3 on domain strength rather than on page craft. It holds three of the six pillars outright: 7,283 positions in the United States top 10, 24,937 commercial and transactional positions, and 206 Google reviews at 4.5, the largest review base in the cohort by a factor of two. The page itself covers 94 of 237 terms, the best coverage of any competitor, but does it across 3,125 non-stop words at repetition index 4.31, so the same vocabulary returns often. Its service page ranks 21st for the anchor phrase while three pages above it score lower here, which is the clearest case in this cohort of domain authority carrying a position the page does not earn on content.

2. ProStar SEO · SCDI 77.5

ProStar SEO publishes this index and appears in it at its measured rank, second at 77.5. It holds all three content measures: 237 of 237 terms, 15.16% contextual density on the published page, and unique coverage density of 7.39 against Avid Demand's 5.69. Repetition index is 1.73, the lowest in the cohort, which is the substantive claim here: the page covers the whole measured vocabulary while repeating less than any competitor. Three qualifications belong with it. The page was written against the list that measures it. Coverage of 237 is partly structural, because this table supplies the fourteen competitor names. And the body alone measures 26.23%, a figure achieved on 1,609 non-stop words, so this is a compact page rather than a long one, and its lowest-in-cohort repetition index of 1.72 is the substantive figure. What holds ProStar out of first is the domain: 247 United States top-10 positions against WebFX's 7,283, and 25 Google reviews against 206. The page holds no top-50 position for the anchor phrase.

3. OuterBox · SCDI 74.4

OuterBox places third at 73.4 and holds the AI Overview maximum at 2,359 positions, the single strongest signal in the cohort for generative surfaces. Its page ranks 5th for the anchor phrase, the best organic position among the true service pages here. Content is the weaker half of its profile: 85 terms of 237 at 10.29% density over 2,916 non-stop words. The domain contributes 4,290 top-10 positions and 111 reviews at 4.9. OuterBox runs four offices; the Houston listing surfaced no panel, so all 111 reviews sit on the Copley headquarters listing.

4. Konstruct Digital · SCDI 56.4

Konstruct Digital places fourth at 55.3 with the third strongest Google Business Profile in the cohort, 42 reviews at 4.8. The page covers 74 of 237 terms at 11.15% over 2,476 non-stop words. Its standard extraction was truncated by a decorative article wrapper, so the figures come from displayed body text. The domain brings 231 top-10 positions and 720 commercial positions from a Calgary base, and the page ranks 26th. Konstruct lists three offices; the Toronto listing at 200 Bay Street carries no reviews, so the Calgary headquarters figure stands alone.

5. Ironpaper · SCDI 55.7

Ironpaper places fifth at 54.7 on domain signals rather than page depth. It brings 757 top-10 positions, 1,726 commercial positions and 298 AI Overview positions, all strong for an agency of its size, and its page ranks 22nd. The page is the constraint: 42 terms of 237, the second thinnest coverage here, across 925 non-stop words. Its 3.7 rating over 12 reviews is the lowest rating in the cohort. Ironpaper operates two listings; the New York marketing listing was used.

6. Altitude Marketing · SCDI 53.4

Altitude Marketing places sixth at 53.4 with the third best organic position among these service pages, 9th for the anchor phrase, and 994 United States top-10 positions behind it. The page holds the lowest density in the cohort at 8.48% and covers 46 of 237 terms over 1,463 non-stop words. The Emmaus listing carries 11 reviews at 4.5. This is a domain performing well ahead of the page representing it on this keyword.

7. SUSO Digital · SCDI 53.1

SUSO Digital places seventh at 51.8 on the strength of a 5.0 rating over 20 reviews and a dense, short page: 14.03% density across only 777 non-stop words, the second highest density in the cohort. Coverage is the cost of that brevity, 38 terms of 237, the second lowest here. Its standard extraction was truncated by a decorative article wrapper, so the figures come from displayed body text. The London domain brings 232 top-10 positions in the United States database and the page ranks 24th.

8. RevenueZen · SCDI 48.2

RevenueZen places eighth at 47.3 with the second lowest repetition index in the cohort at 2.29, meaning what it does cover it states once rather than repeating. Coverage reaches 66 of 237 at 9.58% over 1,576 non-stop words. The domain contributes 896 commercial positions but only 91 top-10 positions, and 22 reviews at 4.6. The page ranks 13th, the second best organic position among the service pages measured here.

9. The Frank Agency · SCDI 46.5

The Frank Agency places ninth at 45.4. Its commercial footprint is disproportionate to its top-10 count, 1,416 commercial positions against 63 positions in the top 10, which describes a domain ranking broadly but shallowly on buying-intent queries. The page covers 50 of 237 terms at 11.99% over 1,051 non-stop words. Its Overland Park listing holds 5 reviews at 4.2, and the page ranks 28th.

10. SeeResponse · SCDI 43.9

SeeResponse places tenth at 42.7 with the second best competitor coverage in the cohort, 84 of 237, over 3,055 non-stop words. It buys that breadth with repetition: index 4.60, the highest here, so terms return more often than on any other page measured. The domain is the weak half, 39 top-10 positions and a single AI Overview position, the lowest AI footprint of any member with a listing. Seven reviews at 5.0 on the McLean listing. The page ranks 35th, the deepest position in the published cohort.

11. Stratabeat · SCDI 42.5

Stratabeat ranks first organically for "b2b seo agency" and eleventh here at 41.3, the widest gap between SERP position and index score in this cohort. The page is respectable, 72 of 237 terms at 12.29% over 1,603 non-stop words. Two pillars pull it down. The domain is small for the position it holds, 61 top-10 positions and 286 commercial positions. And its Google Business Profile, while present, carries no reviews at all, scoring zero on a pillar where twelve of the fifteen score something. A review programme alone would move this row several places.

12. Discovered Labs · SCDI 40.8

Discovered Labs places twelfth at 40.8. The domain outperforms its page: 122 top-10 positions and 36 AI Overview positions against coverage of 43 of 237 terms at 10.41% over 1,153 non-stop words. No public Google Business Profile surfaced for this agency, so it scores zero on that pillar, which costs it roughly five points and two places. The page ranks 32nd and targets B2B SaaS specifically rather than B2B broadly.

13. SpearPoint · SCDI 40.4

SpearPoint places thirteenth at 39.5 with a 5.0 rating over 16 reviews, a strong profile for an agency of its size. The page covers 49 of 237 terms at 9.63% over 1,236 non-stop words. The domain is the smallest in the published cohort on top-10 positions at 29, with 437 commercial positions and 6 AI Overview positions. The page ranks 29th. Scored on the Centennial, Colorado listing.

14. Avid Demand · SCDI 33.4

Avid Demand ranks second organically for the anchor phrase and last but one here at 32.4. The page is the shortest in the cohort by a wide margin, 422 non-stop words, and covers 24 of 237 terms, the lowest coverage measured. Its unique coverage density of 5.69 is the best of any competitor, and its repetition index of 1.71 is the lowest among the competitors, but on a page this short that reflects brevity rather than discipline. The domain brings 46 top-10 positions and 89 commercial positions, and the Boulder listing holds 5 reviews at 4.8. A second office in Bozeman was not checked and cannot change the row.

15. Web Founders USA · SCDI 32.0

Web Founders USA holds the best competitor density at 14.99% and still finishes fifteenth at 30.6, which is the clearest demonstration on this table that density alone does not carry a score. Coverage is 43 of 237 over 947 non-stop words at repetition index 3.30. Its standard extraction was truncated by a decorative article wrapper, so the figures come from displayed body text. The domain has 5 top-10 positions and zero AI Overview positions, and no public Google Business Profile surfaced. The page ranks 34th.
