Global SEO Services Built Market by Market

Ranking in your home market proves almost nothing about the next one. A German buyer types a different query, trusts a different review site, and often lands on a different search engine than your US customer.

ProStar SEO works as your international SEO consultant. The job is narrow and concrete: decide which international markets deserve investment, build the search architecture that lets each one rank on its own, then produce international content a native speaker would recognize as written for them.

Éric St-Cyr founded ProStar SEO in 2019. Since then the agency has run international SEO programs for more than 600 clients across 20+ verticals, in English, French, and Spanish, with senior strategists working in house on every account. No offshoring. No long-term contract.

Search now splits in two. Google ranks pages. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini build a picture of your brand, then decide whether to name it at all. Our AI SEO work folds generative engine optimization into the international brief from the start. An answer engine reads every language version of your brand at once, so AI visibility rises or falls on whether those versions describe the same company.

Find out which market you can win first

Most international problems are invisible from a dashboard. A broken hreflang cluster, a geo-IP redirect hiding half your site from Googlebot, a German page competing against your English one. ProStar finds them in a free audit, then names the market you are closest to winning.

Most global SEO services start with a translation invoice. Ours start with a decision about where not to compete. A five-market rollout that spreads budget evenly usually loses all five, because search volume, competitor strength, and buying power are never distributed evenly. ProStar sizes each of your target markets first, then sequences the build so early revenue funds later expansion. That sequence is the whole international SEO strategy.

Our global SEO services cover market sizing, international keyword research, localized content production, and the technical work that keeps every language version indexable. Large multi-language estates run through our enterprise SEO programs.

Market Prioritization and International Keyword Research

Market prioritization answers one question: which country returns the most revenue per dollar of SEO spend. We answer it with data before a single page gets written. Our market research pass scores each candidate country on four inputs:

  1. Total search volume by country for your commercial keywords
  2. Competitor analysis covering domain authority and content depth in that local market
  3. Conversion economics, including currency localization and local payment methods
  4. Operational readiness, meaning whether you can actually service the market entry

International keyword research then runs natively per country, never as a translated keyword list. Search intent shifts across borders. British buyers search “SEO agency”, Americans search “SEO company”, and the German equivalent barely uses the abbreviation. Our native speakers build the multilingual keyword research set, apply keyword clustering, and map every cluster to one page.

Country-Language Matrix and Search Volume by Country

A country-language matrix is the single artifact that prevents most international SEO disasters. It lists every market on one axis and every language on the other, then names the URL that owns each intersection. Canada needs English and French. Switzerland needs German, French, and Italian. Belgium needs Dutch and French, and the Dutch page is not the Netherlands page.

Country targeting and language targeting are separate decisions, and conflating them is what produces duplicate content across half a dozen URLs. The matrix also exposes where your international reach has no coverage at all, which is usually the cheapest growth available. Cross-border retailers can push this further with cross-border ecommerce SEO consulting, where catalog structure and currency handling change the answer.

One matrix, agreed before development starts, is worth more than a year of hreflang firefighting.

Localized Content Strategy for Every Target Market

A localized content strategy assigns each market its own topic set, not a mirror of the English one. Local competitors already rank for questions your home market never asks. Our content gap analysis starts from exactly that shortfall, then briefs writers on the target audience, the local intent, and the localized SERP features worth chasing, whether that is a featured snippet in the UK or a People Also Ask block in Australia. Our SERP checker for any country shows which of those features actually fire in each market, across 150+ locations and 30+ interface languages.

Cultural differences change more than tone. They change which objection the page has to answer first, and that is what lifts conversion rates. Every brief carries a contextual density target. We measure it against the pages ranking in that country right now, for that local audience, not against a global average. Our SEO content writing services handle content optimization in house, in the target language, with the same term coverage discipline we apply in English.

Technical SEO for Multi-Country and Multilingual Websites

Technical SEO decides whether Google ever shows the right page to the right country. On a single-market site the stakes are modest. On multilingual websites with nine language versions, one broken tag can hand the UK page to French searchers and bury the French page entirely. Our technical SEO agency team audits and implements, because a fault list nobody deploys changes nothing.

Hreflang Tags, x-default, and Sitemap Annotations

Hreflang tags tell search engines which language and country version to serve. They fail quietly, which is why almost nobody catches the failure. Our international SEO audit checks every one of them:

  • Missing return tags, where page A points to B but B never points back
  • No x-default fallback, leaving unmatched visitors on the wrong version
  • Canonicals that contradict the hreflang cluster and collapse it
  • Hreflang sitemap annotations that drift out of sync with the on-page tags
  • Language codes written as country codes, the most common single error

Hreflang implementation belongs in XML sitemaps on large estates rather than in the head of every template, because sitemap annotations are easier to audit and cheaper to change. On a WordPress or Shopify CMS with a multilingual plugin, the defaults are usually close. Shopify Markets goes further by creating a storefront per region, each duplicating the catalogue, which our Shopify SEO agency work resolves with hreflang and canonical policy set across markets. Custom builds are a different story. On headless and enterprise sites, faults accumulate faster than most teams audit, and the wrong version keeps surfacing in search engine results.

ccTLD, Subdirectory, or Subdomain: Choosing Your Domain Strategy

Your domain strategy is the hardest decision to reverse, so we make it with evidence rather than preference. A subdirectory, or subfolder, inherits the authority your main domain already earned, which makes it right for most companies entering new markets. A ccTLD sends the strongest local signal and wins on trust where buyers check the URL, but every ccTLD starts from zero and needs its own link acquisition budget.

A subdomain sits between the two and rarely wins on the technical evidence. Legal structure can still override the SEO answer. A company with a separate registered entity and a local brand name in each market often has good reason to run ccTLDs. We document the URL structure decision, including country codes and the gTLD fallback, before anyone writes code.

Geo-IP Redirects, Language Switchers, and Crawl Budget

Geo-IP redirects break international SEO more often than they help. Googlebot crawls from US IP addresses, so a hard geo-IP redirect can hide every non-US version from indexing. We replace forced redirects with a visible language switcher pointing at real crawlable URLs, plus a suggestion banner for visitors who landed on the wrong version. User experience improves and so does coverage.

Crawl budget matters once a site multiplies by nine languages. Our technical SEO audit cuts parameter bloat, fixes indexing traps, and sets country targeting in Google Search Console per property. Google Analytics gets configured to report by market, because one blended traffic number hides which country is actually working.

Multilingual SEO, Localization, and AI Visibility

Multilingual SEO is an independent strategy per language, with its own keyword research, its own content calendar, and its own authority build. Translation is a production step inside it, never a substitute for it. AI visibility now sits on top: your global audience asks ChatGPT and Perplexity before reaching a results page, and those answer engines read your brand across every language at once.

Transcreation and Localized Copywriting Beyond Translation

Transcreation rewrites a message for a market instead of converting it word for word. Our native speakers handle localised copywriting so the tone of voice, idiom, and linguistic nuances read as local. Machine translation followed by a keyword sprinkle produces pages that rank for nothing and convert worse. Cultural relevance is the point.

Our bilingual SEO practice covers French and English for Canadian and French markets, and our Spanish capability extends into Spain and the US Hispanic market. Multilingual content creation runs in house, which means the writer and the strategist argue about the brief before publication rather than after. That is what a working multilingual SEO agency looks like from the inside.

Multilingual GEO for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini

Generative engine optimization works at brand level, not page level. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, and Gemini assemble one picture of your company from your site, your reviews, your press, and your structured data, then decide whether to name you. Inconsistent descriptions across languages lower that confidence, and the engine cites a competitor instead. AI Overviews behave the same way.

Multilingual GEO fixes the inputs. We align entity clarity and entity salience across every language version, deploy schema markup per locale, and check robots.txt so GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended are not blocked by a rule written to stop scrapers. An llms.txt file then points AI crawlers at the pages that matter.

Answer engine optimization, or AEO, rewards question-based queries answered plainly, which is why our FAQ blocks get written per market rather than translated once. Deeper detail lives on our LLM SEO services page.

International Search Engine Optimization Results Across 600+ Clients

International search engine optimization is measured per country or it is not measured at all. ProStar reports international rankings, organic traffic, and revenue by market, weekly, against the baseline we set at kickoff. Our documented SEO case studies show the pattern across regulated and competitive verticals, including an online casino and a Dallas surgical clinic.

Authority does not travel. Your German trade press coverage means nothing to a Spanish buyer, and an AI engine answering a Spanish query draws on Spanish sources. International link building therefore runs per market: local directories, local industry publications, local review platforms, and digital PR pitched to journalists writing in that language.

Topical authority compounds faster when the backlink profile matches the market. Our white-hat link building program earns backlinks that build local proof deliberately, one country at a time, and treats unlinked brand mentions as trust signals worth chasing. Brand authority in a new market is built, never inherited, and a citation from a national publication moves international visibility faster than ten generic guest posts.

Measuring Organic Traffic, Rankings, and Revenue by Country

Every engagement starts by naming the conversion events that count. Then we instrument them. Semrush and Ahrefs track search engine rankings per country database, Search Console supplies query data by market, and the CRM closes the loop from international traffic to booked revenue. Performance monitoring is weekly, not quarterly.

Our reporting covers four figures per market:

  • Keyword position gains against the launch baseline
  • Qualified traffic split by country and language version
  • Conversion rate by market, because traffic without conversions is a diagnosis
  • Revenue attributed to organic search, the only key performance indicator the CFO reads

Global Search Strategy FAQs

Short answers to the questions prospects ask before a global search strategy engagement starts.

What does an international SEO consultant actually do?

An international SEO consultant decides which markets to enter, designs the URL and hreflang architecture supporting them, and directs on-page SEO, keyword research, and content work per language. Good international SEO consulting also sets the measurement model, so each country gets judged on its own numbers rather than a blended global average.

How is global SEO different from multilingual SEO?

Global SEO targets a worldwide audience without heavy regional adaptation, which is why global search visibility can look strong while local rankings stay flat. Multilingual SEO services focus on serving several languages well, which may or may not mean several countries. International SEO services cover both dimensions and add geotargeting on top.

Should I use a ccTLD, subdomain, or subdirectory?

Most companies should use a subdirectory, because it inherits existing domain authority and costs least to maintain. Choose a ccTLD when local trust is decisive or a separate legal entity operates the market. A subdomain is defensible for technical reasons, rarely for SEO ones. Our international SEO agency documents the tradeoff either way.

How long does it take to rank in a new country?

Expect early movement in 60 to 90 days and commercial impact from month four, assuming the technical foundation is sound and international content ships on schedule. Traditional SEO timelines apply, with one exception: a fresh ccTLD takes longer, because the domain has no authority to inherit.

Work With a Senior In-House Multinational SEO Team

ProStar operates as a multinational SEO agency with senior specialists in house across North America, working in English, French, and Spanish. Every account is staffed by the people who scoped it. Our developers deploy the fixes, which is why hreflang corrections and schema markup ship in days rather than sitting in someone else’s backlog. Multilingual SEO consulting and implementation live under one roof.

Scientific SEO, Contextual Density, and No Long-Term Contracts

Scientific SEO is our name for a simple constraint: every factor we target has to be measurable, testable, and reproducible. Contextual density is the core of it. We measure the term, entity, and semantic coverage of the pages currently ranking in each country, tier those terms by how many competitors use them, then build content exceeding the best page in that specific market.

Our global SEO consultants run the same method in every language. It is documented in our contextual density strategy guide.

Pricing is monthly with 30 days notice. That structure forces us to earn the next month on measured international growth, and it is why clients treat our global SEO strategy as an operating line rather than an experiment. AI SEO work is included in the same retainer, not sold as an upsell.

Most agencies optimize by intuition. We optimize by evidence, per market.
